Our Client is a global firm looking for a Legal Project Manager. This position can be based in one of their locations across the country. They have offices in San Francisco, Silicon Valley, San Diego, Los Angeles, New York, Atlanta, Washington, Chicago, and Cleveland.

The Legal Project Manager (LP Manager) will work directly with Firm attorneys and clients to support the implementation of legal project management (LPM) principles in a strategic manner by matter and practice area. The LP Manager will facilitate the development and implementation of LPM education programs and tools. The role will also provide on-demand consultations to client matter teams through all stages of engagements, including initial scoping, budgeting, planning, monitoring and managing, and post-engagement assessment.

The LP Manager will work within the Client Services department working closely with Practice Leaders, client relationship partners, and the Associate Director for Legal Project Management. The LP Manager will be a resource for lawyers and clients by providing on-call training assistance in defining and scoping matter specific work plans and the design and utilization of technology for managing resources in the delivery of legal services. The LP Manager will be expected to play a crucial role in developing and deploying LPM best practices across the Firm, and guide specific practice areas in the creation of project plan templates by matter type. The LP Manager will interact with Firm staff and attorneys, as well as, client staff and in-house counsel to coordinate efforts in the delivery of legal services.

The LP Manager is expected to perform all job duties with a commitment to providing superior service to clients, producing quality work product and actively participating to maintain an atmosphere of teamwork and continuous improvement. Above all, the LP Manager must fulfill the needs of the Firm in a manner which is consistent with its vision and values.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work closely with practice teams to support the efficient management of client matters through the application of project management techniques throughout the life of the engagement.
  • Provide on-demand support for lawyers in the application of project management techniques as needed during the initiation, ongoing monitoring, and assessment of work for specific client matters.
  • Assist lawyers and matter teams with the development and maintenance of matter work plans; client communication plans; planning and tracking of matter timelines, milestones and dependencies using appropriate tools and reports.
  • Ensure any scope changes or budget adjustments are effectively and consistently relayed to client relationship attorney.
  • Lead reviews of matters where LPM project plans were used to determine lessons learned and implement improvement.
  • Develop and provide training in the use of project plan templates to efficiently utilize past experience in the management of similar new engagements.
  • Create strategy for implementing LPM practices in specific practice areas or for specific clients by assessing current personnel and determining additional needs.
  • Provide LPM guidance on best practices, tools, techniques, roles and responsibilities, and lead training sessions on LPM topics and tools to attorneys and professional staff.
  • Utilize process maps and project plans to support RFP pricing proposals, budgeting, staffing and margin analysis.
  • Build relationships and foster a collaborative approach to working with internal clients across practice groups and with clients.
  • Continue to learn and remain current with industry LPM trends and tools.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel.
  • Broad understanding of the various legal services provided to clients by large law firms.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills; creative and innovative thinker
